Who we are

European Camera Repair is the EU mail-in service of the following business, which acts as the seller and service provider under these terms:

Fotoriparatore di Matteo Arelli (sole proprietorship)
Via Primo Maggio 16, 60131 Ancona (Marche), Italy
VAT no. IT02862590425
Email: info@europeancamerarepair.com

"European Camera Repair", "we", "us" and "our" refer to this business. "You" refers to the customer requesting the repair, acting as a consumer.

What the service is

We diagnose and repair cameras, lenses and related photographic equipment sent to our lab in Ancona, Italy. The service is provided at a distance to consumers residing in European Union member states. We do not accept shipments from the United Kingdom, because post-Brexit customs formalities are outside our control and would make prices and turnaround unpredictable.

How the contract is formed

The repair contract is concluded through the following steps:

  1. You submit a repair request through our online form, describing your equipment and the fault.
  2. We reply with shipping instructions and open a provisional record ("proto-record") of your request. This is not yet a binding order.
  3. You ship the equipment to our lab, at your own cost and risk (see section 11).
  4. On arrival we carry out a free diagnosis and identify the fault.
  5. We send you a written quote with a fixed price and the expected repair turnaround.
  6. You approve the quote (and these terms) in writing. Only at that point is a binding repair contract concluded and the work started.

Submitting the form and shipping your equipment does not by itself commit you to any paid repair. No repair is carried out, and nothing is charged, until you approve the written quote.

Diagnosis, quote and acceptance

Diagnosis is free. After inspecting your equipment we email you a written quote stating the fault, the work required, the fixed price and the expected turnaround. The quote is binding on us for the price stated and supersedes any indicative price shown on this website. You are free to accept it or decline it. If you decline, you owe nothing for the diagnosis — only the return shipping (see sections 6 and 11), or you may ask us to recycle the equipment free of charge.

Prices and VAT

Prices marked "from" are indicative starting prices. Prices explicitly marked "fixed" apply when the diagnosed fault corresponds to the repair described. In every case, the binding price is the written quote issued after inspection and accepted by the customer — it does not change unless we discover an additional fault and you approve a revised quote for it.

All prices shown on this website and in our written quotes are inclusive of VAT. There are no additional taxes to pay on top of the quoted amount.

Payment

Payment is due once the repair is completed, after you have approved the quote and before the equipment is shipped back to you. Accepted methods are bank transfer or PayPal; the exact instructions are provided with the quote or invoice. The €20 return shipping fee (see section 7) is added to the repair price. If you decline the quote or the equipment is beyond economical repair, only the €20 return shipping is due (unless you opt for free recycling).

Return shipping and its limits

Once a repair is approved and completed, we ship your equipment back by UPS, tracked, for a flat €20 to most EU destinations. Remote areas, islands and oversized parcels may require a separate quote, which we agree with you before shipping.

Return shipments are not insured by default. Transit insurance for the declared value is available on request and is quoted before we ship. If you do not request insurance, the return parcel travels tracked but uninsured, and our liability for loss or damage in transit is limited to what the carrier provides under its standard terms.

Right of withdrawal (14 days)

As a consumer buying a service at a distance, you have the right to withdraw from the contract within 14 days of its conclusion, without giving any reason. To exercise it, send us a clear statement by email to info@europeancamerarepair.com before the 14-day period expires.

Because repairs are usually urgent, most customers ask us to start the work immediately, before the 14 days have elapsed. Under EU consumer law this has a specific consequence: if you expressly request that we begin the service during the withdrawal period, and the service is then fully performed, you lose the right of withdrawal once performance is complete. If you withdraw after performance has begun but before it is complete, you must pay for the part of the service already provided.

For this reason, the approval you give when you accept a quote collects, as four distinct statements:

  1. your acceptance of the written quote and its fixed price;
  2. your acceptance of these Terms & Conditions;
  3. your express request that we begin the repair before the 14-day withdrawal period expires;
  4. your acknowledgement that, once the repair is fully performed, your right of withdrawal is lost, and that if you withdraw while work is in progress you must pay for the work already done.

A model withdrawal form is available on request by email. In practice, because you expressly ask us to begin and the repair is then carried out, an approved and completed repair is not subject to a free cancellation — you have received the service you requested.

Spare parts

We use the parts best suited to a reliable, lasting repair. Depending on the model, the fault and availability, these may be original manufacturer parts, equivalent compatible parts, new parts or sound recovered (reclaimed) parts. Where a part is not new or not an original manufacturer part, this does not reduce the warranty on the work (see section 12). If a specific choice of part matters to you, tell us before you approve the quote.

Unavailable spare parts

Some faults require a specific part that is no longer produced or cannot be sourced within a reasonable time. If that happens, we tell you honestly. Where the part cannot be found, the repair may not be possible; in that case you owe nothing for the diagnosis and only the €20 return shipping applies (or free recycling if you prefer).

Inbound shipping and pre-existing condition

You ship your equipment to us at your own cost and risk, with a tracked service of your choice. Responsibility for the parcel while it travels to us rests with you and the carrier and insurance you choose. Please pack securely — most transport damage we see is caused by poor packing.

We record the condition of your equipment on arrival. We are not responsible for pre-existing damage, wear, or faults unrelated to the work you approve. If, during diagnosis or repair, we find further pre-existing damage relevant to the job, we tell you before proceeding.

Warranty

Every repair is covered by a 6-month commercial warranty on the parts we replaced and the work we carried out. If the same fault reappears within that period, without new damage or improper use, we repair it again at no charge. This warranty does not cover impact, liquid, sand or tampering damage, nor faults unrelated to the repair performed.

This commercial warranty is offered in addition to, and does not affect, your statutory rights as a consumer under applicable law, including the legal guarantee of conformity.

Equipment not collected and non-payment

Where a return-shipping or repair payment is outstanding, your equipment stays at our lab until the balance is settled. If there is no response and no payment for 90 days, we reserve the right to dispose of the equipment in accordance with applicable law. We will have contacted you by email before taking any such step.

Authorisation to dispose or recover parts

By approving a repair, or by choosing free recycling instead of paid return, you authorise us to dispose of the equipment responsibly and to recover reusable parts from it. This applies to equipment you have asked us to recycle, and to equipment treated as abandoned under section 13.

Liability

We carry out repairs with professional care. Our liability is limited to the repair itself and, for shipping, to the terms in section 7. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or under mandatory consumer protection rules.

Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms and any repair contract are governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer resident in another EU member state, you also benefit from any mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of your place of residence, as provided by EU law.

Complaints and dispute resolution

If something is not right, contact us first by email at info@europeancamerarepair.com — we handle complaints in writing so nothing is lost. We aim to reply promptly and resolve the matter fairly.

As a consumer in the EU you may also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr to submit a dispute for out-of-court resolution.
